The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroad in November 2020 was up compared to November 2019. Carloads originated increased 3.2 percent, from 317,196 in November 2019 to 327,415 in November 2020. 

Grain Mill Products led gains again with a 24.3 percent increase. Waste and Scrap Materials was up 19.4 percent, and Grain and Metallic Ores increased 18.7 and 16.0 percent respectively. Coal led declines, down 11.7 percent. Crushed Stone, Sand and Gravel, Nonmetallic Minerals, Pulp, Paper and Allied Products and All Other Carloads were also down in November.

Carloads originated for 2020 were at 3,557,139 through November 30, down about 272,000 carloads, or 7.1 percent from 2019.
