A Standard Point Location Code (SPLC) is assigned to all stations registered by rail carriers. Between six to nine digits, this numeric code is used to specify the physical location of a station. Presently a minimum of six digits is required with three zeros.

SPLCs are integral for relating Centralized Station Master records to other industry reference file data. SPLCs are also used with assigned Junction abbreviations along with location name and state. SPLCs are assigned by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) for U.S. and Mexican locations and by the Railway Association of Canada (RAC) for Canadian provinces.
